The public pharmacy is published by the "Belgian Centre for Pharmacotherapeutic Information" (BCFI). The BCFI recognized a non-profit organization funded by the Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (FAMHP). The purpose of the BCFI has information on medicines on the Belgian market to provide health professionals. This software application, such as enabling the website www.bcfi.be the Directory is intended for physicians, pharmacists and dentists, as well as students of these disciplines. There is a monthly update.
The purpose of this Directory is to promote the rational use of medicines. Rational use means that only medicines are used for which validated studies exist that one adequately used these drugs (in terms of indications, contraindications, dosage, interactions, ...) and that takes into account the cost. In this context, the notion of "evidence-based pharmacotherapy" to be mentioned: it is important to know what the evidence is on the risk-benefit ratio of a drug.
