Read smartphone sensors data in ScratchX, the Scratch 2.0 with extensions
Scratch is an interpreted dynamic visual programming language. It has the goal of teaching programming concepts to kids and teens and letting them create games, videos, and music. It is being used at home and in a wide variety of in-school and after-school settings around the world.
The Scratch Sensor uses the Experimental Extensions for Scratch to send the smartphone sensor information to ScratchX, the version of Scratch 2.0 that accepts extensions.
The Internet of Things (IOT) which promises to make life simpler is expanding at a rapid rate. One important component of the IOT is the sensor to connect the physical world to the internet. There are about 2 billion Android smartphones in the world with sensors built-in. It is highly likely a Scratch user will have access to one. Thus the Scratch Sensor allows Scratch users a quick, low cost and easy way to understand how sensors worked and how to program them.
